Hey, Davey Elf -
Great comments about the characters and their quests for attention. I
am thinking out loud about Ron, so excuse me if my comments sound a
bit nonsensical...
Ron definitely wants attention. However, I can't say he fits into any
of the categories that the others characters do. I think maybe what
Ron wants is to be acknowledged as being in the same league as his
friends. Does that make sense? Ron wants people to see him as
Harry's best friend because Ron is a great guy who Harry chose to be
his friend. He wants Draco to envy *him* (little does he know,
actually, that Draco does, because Draco would, IMO, sell his soul to
be Harry's friend). He wants to make sure that people know that he
has been there, a number of times to help Harry - the Sorcerer's Stone
rescue, the defeat of the basilisk, etc. Ron wants reassurance from
others. Unfortunately, Ron hasn't yet learned to reassure himself.
Whaddya know? In a way, *Ron* is like Snape too!>
