Ah, I knew some L.O.O.N. would notice that.  OK, there are other midnight 
wanderers besides Snape, but I still maintain that Snape stands out.

I just thought of this line too (Filch to Snape):  "You asked me to come 
directly to you, Professor, if anyone was wandering around at night, and 
somebody's been in the library -- Restricted Section" (PS/SS 12).

Again, there are lots of plausible explanations--e.g., perhaps Snape is 
Deputy Headmaster in Charge of Disciplining Night Wanderers and told Filch 
to stop bugging Dumbledore with these items and just come to him--but I see 
a Harrylike independence about Snape at moments like this.
