They're linked in the sense that they're the only figures that are 
named after colours (red and white). Incidentally red and white are 
signifant colours in Alchemy (can you tell how I mis-spent my youth 
yet? :-). Also, they're opposites, kind of -- Albus is seen as 
generally fortunate/good and Rubeus as unfortunate/evil -- although, 
like astrology and other divination systems, geomancy recognises that 
it can be difficult to say something is good or evil of itself (hey, 
I think that's a pretty major theme in Harry Potter, isn't it?). 

Anyway, I always found it a bit complicated to be honest. I've just
