I have a Harry Potter book club for middle school students and I always have
several inquiries from everyone about the books. Is it promoting wicca,
satanic worship, etc... I can usually tell if someone really wants to know
about Harry Potter or just wants me to believe the way they do. If it is
someone who wants me to change my opinion I will not debate it. I will
simply state that everyone has their own opinions and values. If you want
to believe that Harry Potter is evil (without any first hand knowldege) then
don't read it and I will respect that just as you should respectful of my
love for the literature. BUT, be consistent in your views. If you are
against Harry Potter you should also be against Lord of the Rings trilogy
and Star Wars series. Many of us remember the days of lining up at the
movies and playing with Princess Leah and Luke Skywalkeraction figures. The
connection to Star Wars always turns heads. Generally the response from the
skeptical Harry Potter individuals is that you can not compare the two
because Star Wars is a movie about good versus evil and it really did not
have any alternative motive. Kids just loved the storyline, action,
suspence, and read to find out what is going to happen next. And that is
exactly what Harry Potter does.

P.S. Does anyone know when the current rumored release date for HP and OoP
is set for? (July 2002?)
