     Pettigrew was holding his wand behind him, and Sirius was 
standing in front of Pettigrew.  Peter's own body shielded Sirius 
from the effects of his spell/curse.  What I want to know is why no 
one ever did a prior incantatum spell to Sirius's wand, or noticed 
whether the one little bit of poor blown up Peter - his finger - had 
a neatly severed end or a ragged blown up end.  They just hauled him 
off to Azkaban sans trial, and threw away the key.
