Hi Eire, welcome to the group. I haven't read GoF for a while, but I
think it says that Voldemort addressed some DEs and skipped over
other DEs. In PS/SS, Hagrid tells Harry that some of the DEs appeared
to have come out of trances when Voldemort fell. It makes sense to me
that some of Voldemort's followers were Imperious Cursed rather than
joining willingly.
But what you said is making me think about the Imperious Curse (IC).
If some DEs were legitimately under the IC and came out of it when
Voldemort's power was decimated, then I have a question about
Neville's parents. IF Crouch Jr. was the one who put the Longbottoms
under the IC, then would the Longbottoms be "cured"? Okay, even if
the all DEs present (The Lestranges, Nott and Crouch Jr.) IC'd them
(sort of like how Harry, Ron and Hermione de-wanded Snape in PoA),
then with the demise of Crouch, Jr's powers the Longbottoms'
condition should improve somewhat.
