It spoke with Neville for a long time, did it not?
Probably because Neville thinks he's not brave enough to fit into 
Gryffindor, but is, the bravest of them all.

As courage is not the lack of fear, but the ability to face your 
fears - just watch Neville regularly facing his worst fear, alone and 
in precense of others...

In contrast, look at Ron's reaction when the fake Moody brought 
spiders into class...

Harry faints, but learns to defeat Dementors.

Hermione's worst fear is getting the worst grades so she studies and 
studies harder... Does she fear anything else???
