The books are certainly appropriate for any child that can understand them! 
It's wonderful when a there is a book that can literally be read by all ages. 
I myself am 15 and love the books, as does my cousin, my mother and my 
younger brother. 

The reasons for which some think the books are unappropriate for children are 
invalid. The books are works of fiction but deal with themes that cane be 
apllied to real life. Good vs. Evil, values/morals, prejudice, etc. It's a 
good thing that kids can learn about these things from themes in books.
