I'm not entirely sure which writers have inspired JKR, but looking at
one author has sparked wild speculation. I've always been curious to
how she decided upon the name Neville. The only place I've found it
used in literature is here..

In 1954, Richard Matheson published "I Am Legend". This book went on
to inspire many film makers and spawned such movies as "Last Man on
Earth" (1964, Vincent Price), "Omega Man" (1971, Charlton Heston)
and "Night of the Living Dead." It has also been ver influential to
Stephen King.

Here's a plot summary:
"The story casts its protagonist, Robert Neville, as a sort of
Robinson Crusoe, the lone living human in a world populated by
vampires, created by germ warfare. Trying to maintain his sanity in
this nightmarish existance, Neville hunts the vampires during
daylight hours, destroying them with wooden stakes. During the night,
he barricades himself in his house, which is beseiged by zombie-like
vampires, including his former friend, Ben Cortman.
Neville's daily existance is unchanging and unending...until he meets
a woman, wo may be the Eve to his Adam, or who may be one of the
plague victims, out to destroy him!"

Wild Speculation
- Robert Neville is much like Neville Longbottom's parents, instead
they hunted Evil Wizards (but like vampires in Matheson's book, they
were once 'good' or at least human)
- Neville Longbottom can very well follow in the footsteps of his
parents, becoming an auror. (or showing an ability to do so)
- Neville Longbottom's nemesis in the books so far has been Snape.
Snape is likened to a bat and has vampire-like features in the books.
(there are those who speculate that Snape may very well be a Vampire)
- Perhaps there will be a time in the series where Neville Longbottom
uses his Auror skills in a confrontation with Snape, who is revealed
to be a Vampire. (and possibly responsible for his parents' condition)

Eh... who knows. I'd like to hear your thoughts though.

take care,
KidZero
