Poliakoff

I was in the city library today, and I overheard a snippet of a video some 
guy was watching - what made me prick up my ears was the name 'Poliakoff'.

'Now surely, self' I said to myself 'you have heard that name somewhere 
before?' After a quick millisecond of thought, I remembered - the boy from 
Durmstrang who dribbled food down his robes at the welcoming feast for the 
TWT. (GoF, Ch 15 'Beauxbatons and Durmstrang')

Unfortunatly, the guy closed the door before I could hear much more. I think 
I heard something about Russia, spies etc. I've done a search of the net, 
but found nothing that looks helpful that is also in English.

Does any of this ring a bell for anyone out there? Is JKR setting us up once 
again for the story to turn on its head?
