After Gryffindor's fantastic defeat of Slytherin in book three,
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, finally securing the
Quidditch cup for Gryffindor, Oliver Wood was finally able to leave
Hogwarts, secure in the knowledge that his name was finally to be
etched into the Cup.
I must admit that I, too, have been wondering who would take over
as Team Captain. Since there was no tournament in book 4 that means
we will have to wait until book 5 to find out. Based on everything
that I have read about the team in the books, it seems that the
obvious choice for Team Captain would have to be Angelina Johnson.
Angelina has the seniority to head the team and as a chaser she
seems to be the most heavily relied upon. Katie Bell and Alicia
Spinnet, although quite accomplished themselves, seem to rely more on
Angelina to score.
As for the Weasley twins, it would be almost impossible to select
one over the other. It seems that everything they do in the series of
books, they do together. Moreover, I don't think that they have the
seriousness to manage the team. Perhaps when given the
responsibility, one or the other could rise to the task but, as it
stands now, the readers can not be sure.
So, as far as I can see, Angelina seems to be the best choice for
the postition. She has the experience, the determination, and the
respect of her teammates, as well as the student body as a whole.
However, this is only my opinion.
I do have concerns about the Gryffindor team, however. Harry
joined the team during his first year at Hogwarts. In all of the
books that followed, they never mentioned any new team members being
added. My guess is that the remaining team members are all in the
same year at Hogwarts. By my calculations, it would appear that by
the end of book 5, most, if not all, of the remaining team will
graduate. There will have to be an entire new team formed before the
end of the series. Am I wrong? If I missed anything do let me know.
