Except for me with my July 21 birthday, who was only 15 when I took GCSEs!

This isn't just a one liner, I think it clearly shows that Hermione has to be older than Harry (yes, I'm opening THAT can of worms again). I was always the youngest in the year, and Harry with a July 31 birthday would also be the youngest in the year, except for any possible August birthday. People from September onwards would all be older. She could only be younger if she was a whole year ahead, which I think is unlikely as this is quite rare in England.

Lucy, surprised at being Sorted into Ravenclaw in an HP quiz as she always felt more like a Hufflepuff.
