Joanne says:

***Why would a book give an individual's age rather than his birth year?***

I would imagine this is because his exact birth year is unknown. I do agree
that it is a bit odd. Even "Born around 1330" would have been sufficient!
LOL Then again, if the book Hermione was reading from is anything like the
companion books put out for the Comic Relief UK fund, then perhaps it read in
a conversant tone, instead of like a text book. Also, the book Hermione read
from was pretty old by my guess. Perhaps the books will change the facts
themselves to keep up with the times. I mean, for the book to have given his
age in that manner, it would have to be a pretty recent printing. Ron was
explaining enchanted books to Harry at one point. *smile*

(who thinks that if there is such a thing as a bewitched or enchanted book,
the Harry Potter books certainly qualify!)

"To Harry Potter - the boy who lived!"

"...Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can't see where it
keeps it's brain."
- Arthur Weasley
