WAIT!!!! We have to consider a theory that has found virtually no
support on the list, but that I kind of like anyway.
The theory is that the Imperius Curse is only as strong as the wizard
casting it. If so, and if Voldemort is a good deal stronger than
Crouch Jr., then there is no harm done in Crouch Jr.'s teaching Harry
to resist Crouch Jr.'s Imperius Curse. Just because Harry can resist
Crouch Jr.'s Imperius doesn't mean Harry will stand a chance against
Voldemort. So Crouch Jr. was (a) having fun; (b) fulfilling his role
as DADA teacher to avoid arousing suspicion; and (c) testing the
strength of the opposition. He could do all of these things without
undermining Voldemort if Crouch Jr.'s Imperius Curse is weaker than
Voldemort's.
