Well, you learn something new every day. I never realised the character 
in the book was based on a real person. Interesting piece of 
information. 

Of course one could say that although the character in HP literature is 
based on a real person, the actual character isn't Flamel and thus his 
year of birth doesn't count. In real life he and his wife died, but in 
fiction the characters have lived to a ripe old age. 

Thanks for this, Joshua, I think I need to do some more research now. 
First port of call is the Lexicon to see what Steve has to say about 
these dates.
