I think it *has* to be by choice.  Surely Karkaroff wasn't 
involuntarily apparated to the graveyard, or there would have been a 
lot more "Crucio" going on.  :-)

As for Crouch/Moody, I don't think he has the dark mark on his arm at 
all while he is transformed to look like Moody.  If he did, there 
would be no reason to take Harry away and interrogate him about 
whether Voldemort had returned(other than to have a good gloat, I 
suppose).

I suppose that Voldemort will have to replenish the ranks of his 
supporters, as it seems his forces have taken some nasty hits so 
far.  Several DEs were killed, Karkaroff has fled, Crouch Jr. is soul-
less (although Voldemort doesn't know that), and the giants have been 
pretty much run out of Britain.  Maybe Stan Shunpike and Ernie would 
like to make a career change?  Seriously, though, JKR hasn't 
established that many wizard characters in between the Sirius/Lupin 
generation and the Harry/Ron generation, so she may have to invent a 
lot of DEs for OoP.
