Er... why not?
;)
Ok, I'll buy that Percy may not be headed straight off for V's camp. (Yuka's
argument that some of his desire for status does depend on what his family
considers high-status is good.) My question is more, why is/was he a Griffyndor?
Did he change over time, so that his ambition overshadowed his bravery?
As for why the Dementor immediately gave the Kiss to young Barty Crouch, I'd
think that would be because it immediately recognized him as an Azkaban escapee.
They don't seem to take that sort of thing well.
And let's think about that for a moment. We've now got two instances of someone
escaping from the "inescapable" prison -- one who got noticed right away, and
one who didn't get noticed until quite a bit after the fact. How many others
could there be? (How long have the Dementors been in charge of Azkaban?)
I find the theory of the Dementor being a fake intriguing, but even if the
"Pavlovian" response would work on most wizards, I can't see Snape or McGonnagal
being fooled.
On a separate topic, Sarahbeth pointed out the scene at the end of GoF where
Molly is apparently talking with Vernon. Molly is one of the few who "know the
score" at this point, so this scene is extra-interesting. I still wonder what
they could be talking about, though, and what *possible* positive effect it
could have on those stubborn, cartoonish Dursleys.
