What we don't know is how many points a forfeit costs. Let's
say it's a fixed number. In that case, supposing the Hufflepuff
team is pretty strong, what Harry's remark in SS means is that
Gryffindor will "have to" forfeit, because otherwise the Hufflepuffs
will be able to rack up a huge point margin before deciding to
end the game. On the other hand, in the last game of the season
against Ravenclaw, the Gryffs were dead last in the House Cup
race and had nothing left to lose by trying.
