Surely he would have told snape then so LV would have finished Snape of/Snape couldn't spy any more, unless he was doing a double double bluff and pretending to spy for LV on Dumbledore when he was actully spying for Dumbledore on LV. So your idea could still work here, as long as Peter didn't know that Snape was spying for Dumbledore, mind even if he did, Snape could say it was his cover.

This training could quite as easily have come from LV. 

I'm not disproving your points as I have not actually made up my mind on this, I'm more argueing for the sake of it to try and see if there are any pit falls. 

One further thing: I would have thought Sirius would have mentioned it if Peter was an Auror. Plus Sirius wouldn't have thought Peter quite so talentless and weak if Peter was an Auror would he?
