How Fawkes got into the Chamber

I just whipped out my copy of Fantastic Beasts, and it doesn't say 
that phoenixes can "apparate".  But I do wonder how Fawkes ever got 
in the Chamber....  Hmmmm....

I'm pretty sure that's what the book said, although it might have 
been the dodo(or it could have been both).  If I'm wrong, someone 
please correct me.
