Just for the record, Snape takes points from Gryffindor in two
scenes: After his infamous "I see no difference" remark on Hermione's
teeth, and in the scene when he reads the Skeeter article out loud to
the class.  But this could be attributed to force of habit -- I think
Snape just likes *saying* the phrase "X points from Gryffindor!"

That said, I agree with the rest of your argument.
