I bet it's by invitation only though.  Whatever Snape sends to Lupin 
(some kind of floo powder) summons him.  I can just see the scene if 
Lupin tried to show up in Snape's office without permission--yikes.  
Probably anyone who tries showing up in Snape's fireplace without 
having been invited hits 4-foot spikes on his/her way down.
