I think this has been discussed before...but what the heck...

I definately noticed this.  And I think it was at least partially 
intentional.  These books are told from Harry's perspective - there's only 
one scene in the entire series so far where Harry is not present, and though 
the narrative is never first-person, it's very definately channeled through 
Harry's eyes.  We notice only what he notices, hear only what he hears, and 
generally think pretty much what he thinks.  And just as Harry ages and 
matures from one book to the next, so does his perception of the world 
around him.

At least, that's how I see it.  ^_-
