Just because Tom became evil doesn't mean that his mother was. If she 
had lived or something else had happened differently in his 
childhood, there's no telling what might have happened to him. He may 
not have become Voldemort in the first place. I think the possibility 
of his mother being The Grey Lady is interesting.
