I think I have grounds for believing that Sirius was in Gryffindor 
aswell.  Didn't he know where the Gryff. common room was when he was 
after Pettigrew? The first time when he attacked the Fat Lady and 
again when he got past Sir Cadogan.  The second time didn't he know 
where the 3rd year boys' dormitory was?  If Harry and Ron had such a 
hard time finding the Slytherin common room (CoS), there would be no 
way someone who had not been a Gryff. could know 1)where to find the 
common room, and 2) find the 3rd year boys' dorm.
I really think that MWPP were all in Gryff. it would just make a lot 
more sense and need a lot less explaining.
