I really think that JKR was merely trying to show the harm that
Skeeter could do, rather than to depict Molly as a bubblehead.  One
can make the argument, however, that even the brightest and most
levelheaded individuals have some blindspot, and "Witch Weekly", the
supermarket checkout line magazine of the wizarding world, may be
Molly's.  Another argument (This is my pet theory!) is that Molly and
Arthur are an undercover husband and wife team of Unspeakables, and
Molly was keeping in character for her cover assignment.
