You didn't notice for a very simple reason:  we don't learn that Remus 
is his name until we already know he's a werewolf.  The first person 
to call him that is Sirius, in chapter 18, a few pages after 
Hermione's revelation.

So you can put down that toaster now and give your poor head a break!
