Is Everyone OK?

Responding to some concern since I hadn't posted to the list and no 
one really knew where I lived: I am okay--better off than many are 
right now, I'm sure.  I live in a suburb of Chicago and therefore had 
little direct involvement with this, except to sit spellbound and 
horrified in front of the news as much of it was occuring.  I checked 
on the list briefly yesterday, but not long enough to post anything, 
which I probably ought to have done.  I was relieved when I visited 
that everyone here was alright, though understandably shaken.

But I also want to say that when I checked here yesterday I was not 
only filled with relief at the safety of you all, but a certain sense 
of pride for the people on this list.  This is more than just a great 
discussion list; it is also a very caring and warm community and I am 
quite proud to consider myself a part of it.

As long as people who have never even met can be so filled with 
compassion and love for each other than I think we are winning the war 
against this sort of hate and violence in a more vital and wondrous 
way than any military action could ever do.  Yesterday's events upset 
me greatly, but the response has only served to strengthen and 
reaffirm my faith in people.
