Hello Everyone,
Doesn't seem that anyone has reported from my corner of the world. I live
one county away from
Somerset County-Shanksville where Flite 93 came down. In addition to the
national coverage on
NYC and DC, our local reporters (some my former co-workers)have been at this
crash site and have provided a lot of the feeds from this area to NBC and
CBS.
Already the gruesome task of identifying everything in the approximately
three mile area has begun.
Somerset is a rural county 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. We said our
prayers for those on board, knowing long before the media started
speculating that the crew and/or passengers must have valiantly gave the
good fight to disarm the terrorists. From eyewitnesses, the plane arced,
dipped its wings, then turned and headed into the ground.
If any of you watched the Today show this am, I was so moved by an interview
with the mother of one of the victims. She herself was a flight attendant
and the son was traveling on a companion or family pass.
He called his family to tell them of the hijacking and told them that they
(on the flite)would have to do something about it. This woman went on to
describe her son as bright, athletic and aggressive and she just knows that
he and others were heroes, sacrificing their lives but saving so many more
on the ground. (reports today think the plane intended to hit the White
House or Capitol). This woman was so courageous, so eloquent, conveying
that they have some peace, having been able to speak with him for this final
time.
I know we'll all hear many more of these stories unfold, my heart breaks for
those directly involved, the families still waiting for word of loved ones,
and the courage of the fire/police/emergency workers tirelessly pushing on.
I look in horror at the NYC rubble and can't imagine how they are coping.
My heart breaks for the rest of America, we who feel helpless in this time
of so much need. Our blood bank was overwhelmed and the media asked that
all those who wanted to give blood, please give next week, or the week after
that to have a continuously fresh supply. I'll be in line.
Good thoughts and prayers to all.
Dane, Ravenclaw
