It's very difficult for a writer when something terrible happens to
know how to continue. Do you substantially change your plot? Do you
just continue the way you are going?
I was writing a story about a racing driver having an accident many
years ago and then watched as a driver was killed in a race and
suddenly my work of fiction seemed to be very trivial. I am also
finding it difficult to write at the moment.
I think any writer who has a story just ready to be published with any
plot items which might in anyway mirror the terrible things that have
happened, must be thinking hard about whether they should change
things, hold back publication etc.
In a way, it is lucky that the next book isn't going to be published
until next summer as this will give a gap for people to come to terms
(if you ever can) with things. It is much too early to say that life
goes on, but in the end we must hope it will return to some sort of
normality. I know nothing really about JKR, but I get the impression
she is a very sensitive writer.
