I would keep the plot the same. I might, *might* change the style so that
the tone or plot elements a bit more gentle (well, as gentle as you can be
when talking about such serious matters), but I would not change the plot.
I don't know why. All I can think is that changing the plot would not help
anything. This is a rough world, and sometimes books should reflect that.
Yes, it could indicate compassion for the horrible events that occurred,
but...I don't know...it still doesn't seem as if it would be that helpful.
Something in me says that writers should try to maintain their "truth" and
not stifle themselves. After all, people wouldn't have to read the book.
I know that a bunch of movies, tv shows have cancelled or postponed some
airings that showed incredible violence or terrorism. I do approve of such
things being postponed while the world reels in its shock. I don't think we
need the situation rammed any more in our faces. But I don't think they
should be cancelled indefinitely. If I were about to release a book that had
terrorism elements in it, instead of changing the book, I would simply
postpone the release. Nothing is wrong with waiting.
If JKR has such elements in her upcoming books (and she could very well
have), I hope she doesn't change them. We need to be reminded of such
things, even though it seems incredible that we could ever forget what has
happened. I'm wearing a red, white, and blue ribbon on my right wrist today
because it constantly reminds myself and others of what has happened. I plan
to wear it until...well...until the situation is "better" is NYC and DC.
Until it feels right to take it off.
Feel free to disagree with what I have said in this post. I know I disagree
with the sentiments that the United States needs to respond with war and
destruction to the events that occurred. Of course, I wasn't in NYC or DC, I
probably shouldn't say much...
