Could it have something similar to do with Vampires?  A vampire can 
only enter your home if invited, according to the legend.

Doesn't entirely ring true, because Voldy certainly had no trouble 
attacking others in their homes.  But this is after he died once. 
There could have been something in one of the rites Voldy did that 
brings him under a rule like this.
