I think that the idea that Hagrid is half-giant is not the *big* 
shocker (no pun intended!)  When I read GoF, I got more of an "okay, 
I figured as much" vibe rather than a true shock.  Hagrid must have 
something else up his sleeve.  

I'm willing to bet that Hagrid is a much more powerful wizard than he 
seems.  Since Dumbledore has such a soft spot for Hagrid, I wonder if 
there has been any night-school for Hagrid?  Hagrid has a love of 
magical creatures that is nothing short of blind.  If I were 
Dumbledore, I'd consider teaching a favorite friend (and go-to man, 
to quote another poster) how to better protect himself from more 
dangerous, powerfully magical, creatures.  That way he can use his 
wand (er, umbrella) safely; be able to contain any creature that gets 
the better of his gentle, forgiving nature; and be protected himself 
when he runs those errands for Dumbledore.

I certainly hope we'll meet Fridwulfa!  I can't help but think that 
there will be some kind of reunion for Hagrid and his mum.  And I 
have to agree with another poster - since JKR likes "it's not who you 
were born, but who you become", I've got a feeling that Friddy may be 
a giant with a secret heart of gold.  Hagrid says that his dad was 
broken-hearted when she left, and that she probably wasn't the 
maternal sort.  But what if she left in hopes that Hagrid wouldn't be 
stigmatized if she wasn't around for people to make the giant-
connection?  

What if she is one of the leaders of the remaining giants?  If that 
is the case, it will be interesting to see if she sides with her 
blood (Hagrid), or if she decides to pursue vengeance against the 
wizards that have all but exterminated her people.
