I think cast was the wrong word. Cast does mean left the wand...I 
meant...was successful, was a real spell. I do mean that it's 
possible it doesn't appear because it didn't work as intended.

No, we def. don't -- I do contend that it was a spell, however, 
because JKR picked a lightning bolt because of the power it suggets. 
That seems to suggest it was a spell.

My bets are on Pettigrew. We know he's good at blowing up things. So 
say he goes with Voldy (remember, he wasn't at his hiding spot -- why 
tip Sirius off that something's wrong by not being at your hiding 
spot unless you're onto bigger things?), things went wrong, he didn't 
*dare* try AK, so he blew up the house instead, in a last ditch 
effort to kill Harry, then fled.
