Scabbers' Way (from PoA, Chapter 16)

(To the tune of Wilkommen, from Cabaret)

Dedicated to Haggrid

(NOTE: The original song is a hodge-podge of English, French and
German, so I mixed in some Latin to achieve a comparable effect.
Translation:

Malum in se = bad in itself
Ave atque vale = hail and farewell
Tenebrae = darkness
In tempore belli – in time of war
In hoc signo vinces = by this sign you will conquer

(From the Catholic Requiem, regarding the Day of Judgement)
Dies irae, dies illa
Solvet saecula in favilla
Teste David cum Sybilla=

The day of wrath, the day that shall
Dissolve the earth in ashes,
As David prophesied with the Sybil

Also, in keeping with the original song, the word play in the spoken
central section was contrived to be as awful as possible)

THE SCENE: Professor TRELAWNEY'S classroom. HARRY has just finished
taking his Divination exam, and is preparing to leave, when
TRELAWNEY's voice undergoes a startling change

TRELAWNEY (spoken, in a loud, harsh voice) IT WILL HAPPEN TONIGHT.

HARRY (turning to face her): S -- sorry?

(Seemingly in a trance, TRELAWNEY delivers a cryptic prediction)

TRELAWNEY (music)
Weird karma, bad venue, spell-numb

HARRY
Trelawney is sure getting stranger

TRELAWNEY
He ain't got nobody in his Twilight Zone
Dark Lord abandoned, no flesh nor blood nor bone
You-Know-Who in beaucoup doo-doo
Until today until today in malum se

(Spoken, as if addressing Voldemort) Ave atque Voldy? Tenebrae,
anyone? So, tell me – do they belittle Riddle? Are your death eaters
are fed up with you? Is your dark mark looking dim? Have your
unforgiven spells have been cast away? Are you Volding more but
enjoying it less? Oh, how you wand-a go home! Well, in tempore belli
up to the bar, boy! In hoc signo vinces! Henceforth, life will grow
prettier. Your powers will grow prettier. Even your servant Grew
Pettier

(laughs demonically)

Redrummin' not-by-Black comeback
Teste David cum Sybilla
Dies Irae draws one dies more near
Dark Lord so friendless, friend will soon appear
Bright shining Voldemort's star-bound
Through Scabbers' way, through Scabbers' way, through Scabbers' way!

(End music. TRELAWNEY'S head falls forward onto her chest. She makes
a grunting sort of noise. Harry stares at her. Then, quite suddenly,
her head snaps up again)

TRELAWNEY (spoken)
I'm so sorry, dear boy - the heat of the day, you know... I drifted
off for a moment....
