Dangit, I just composed a great post and then Hotmail threw up on me and
lost it. *kicks Hotmail* Well, let me see if I can reconstruct my
thoughts...

>From: Penny & Bryce <pennylin at swbell.net>

>An *anti-Harry* thread? How can that be? I know there are people who
>maybe favor some of the other characters, but how can anyone dislike
>Harry? Impossible. Heresy, even! :--)

*grin* Well, I don't understand anti-Harry sentiments but I know that I'm
not the most enthusiastic person when it comes to his character. *shrinks
back at all the angry glares shot her way*

I've thought about why I'm kinda lukewarm when it comes to him. I've decided
one reason could be that there's less to speculate about. Since the books
are mostly from his POV, we know what Harry thinks the majority of the time.
Whereas with Hermione, there's more to wonder about.

Another reason could be that if I were to know Harry in real life, I'd be
*jealous* of him. That's right, jealous. Harry does well in school, is
gifted when it comes to flying and Quidditch, has fabulous friends, seems to
"save the day" an awful lot, is destined for greatness, and has more bravery
than one person ought to have. He's just about a complete opposite to me.

Is it any wonder I sympathize with Ron? *sigh* I understand the Normal
Person Syndrome quite well. I've recently thought that perhaps some people
sympathize with Harry over Ron because they have extraordinary qualities and
understand the persecution that comes with being singled out. And perhaps
the reason why some people sympathize with Ron over Harry is people they
don't have extraordinary qualities and sympathize with the frustration of
being ignored. Not to say that Ron doesn't have extraordinary qualities, but
they are severely overshadowed when compared to Harry.

Of course, the above theory isn't ironclad, there are always exceptions to
the "rule". But I rather think it applies some of the time; at least it
applies to me!

>Trina started Percy Fans United, but I *like* P.I.N.E. I'll put up 2
>sickles to join that one. What do you say Trina, should we assimilate
>Percy Fans United into P.I.N.E.?

*immediately starts bouncing up and down, waving her hand frantically,
shrieking "Oh, oh, oh, ME!"* I'll join, I'll join! *shoves her sickles into
the hands of whoever is in charge of P.I.N.E.* While Hermione is my favorite
character (I'll join S.C.H.A.B.B. in a heartbeat), Percy is my second
favorite character and needs as much support as he can get. Poor,
misunderstood Percy...
