<Secondly, I am puzzled by something in GoF. When
Harry arrives at the Burrow and Ron growls by how
obsessed Percy is about Mr. Crouch, he says, "They
should be announcing their engagement any day now."
Oh my gosh, what kind of engagement are they talking
about? Is this supposed to be sarcasm? A real slash
romance? Or is there something in BritEnglish I don't
understand?>
My understanding was that it was meant as sarcasm, and that
Ron was questioning Percy's severe loyalty to Mr. Crouch.
<What do you think would have happened had Harry NOT
taken part in the Tournament? I know it's a rule that
once your name comes out of the goblet, you have to
participate, but nothing terrible would happen if Harry
would not participate. It could've been dismissed by
Dumbledore as a mistake, period.>
Well then the plot would have been a lot less interesting.
But seriously, Dumbledore seemed genuinely concerned about
how Harry's name got chosen and who might have submitted
his name in the first place, and I think if he could have
kept Harry from participating, he would have.
