This is a very good point. I don't doubt Snape's
detestation for Harry is perfectly genuine, (and
perhaps slightly pathological) but does he really like
Malfoy that much - or does he have ulterior motives
for favoring him?
It is clear Snape has kept up his social
connections with other former Death Eaters, it is
important for him to retain their confidence so he'll
be included in any plots or plans which means he has
to behave the way they expect him too. This would
include favoring their children and going along with
their exclusionary ideology.
It does however seem unlikely Dumbledore would
trust Snape if he really was a pure-bloodist.
