As I see it Snape is not a man to suffer fools, or
inept students, gladly. His subject, Potions, is an
unforgiving art and he regards Neville not simply as a
timid, accident prone student but an active threat to
the safety of his classmates and Snape himself and
sees no reason to coddle him just because something
nasty happened to his parents.
