I am going by memory here, since I have read the US editions but own the UK
editions.
In several cases, e.g. Hagrid's letters in PoA and Dumbledore's notes about
the Cloak in SS, they use a handwriting-like font, different for each
character. This is particularly noticeable when the Map addresses Snape--M,
W, P, and P each have a different font. (Interestingly, the letters Hermione
and Ron send to Harry in the first chapter of PoA are in regular type, with
only the signatures being written in.)
In GF, the letters between Harry and Sirius are signed--i.e. done in actual
handwriting, not any kind of font. I can't recall how the text of the
letters is done; I think it's regular text, possibly italicized but the same
font as the rest of the book.
I think the handwriting-ish font approach is a bit gimmicky, although the
tear-blots on Hagrid's letter about Buckbeak are kinda cute.

Dobby does. How would he buy wool and knitting needles if he didn't get
paid?

"This is a =girls'= bathroom," she said, eyeing
Ron and Harry suspiciously. "=They're= not girls."
"No," Hermione agreed.
