I myself found Arthur's description of finding the Dark Mark over 
the house as very personal, that it is highly likely that he had 
experienced the horror himself. Ever since I read that part, I had a 
feeling that Arthur did indeed lose someone--probably a 
son/daughter, during Voldemort's years. I don't believe that the 
Weasleys are always a perpetually one big happy family.
