Barb: This also occurs in Cassie Claire's fics. I don't know for
certain, but a possible inspiration for this might have been Susan

:D At Barb. Actually, that didn't come from The Dark Is Rising,
although I can see how it would look like that. It came out of a
discussion right here on HP4GU over a year and a half ago. (Cannot be
bothered to do archive search, but it ought to be findable in there
under "Ron" and "seventh son.")

In TDIR, Will isn't aware he's a seventh son, and in my fics, Ron
knows he had a brother who died, since his brother drowned when he
was six. It was merely my attempt to 1) make Ron a seer and 2)
Explain why he knew anti-drowning charms. :D I love TDIR though and
did a nod to it when I gave Harry an amulet to wear on his belt, as
Will Stanton wears the six Signs. The Seventh Son mythology is well
established although I don't know where it originates -- I know
Achilles was the seventh son of Thetis, I know Orson Scott Card drew
on the seventh son myths in his Alvin Maker series, but I'm unsure
where it began.

"Ron is a seventh son" is a wildly popular plot device in fics, as it
makes him a Seer and gives him something useful to do, as well as
explaining the gap between Percy and Charlie. There is a Dark Is
Rising - based Seventh Son fic called In the Bleak Midwinter where
Ron, like Will, discovers that he is a seventh son by examining his
family's old Christmas ornaments. It's by Morgead and is at
Sugarquill.
