Actually, JKR gives his birthday as March 1, which would make him
about five months older than Harry.

But since we know Ron's birthday, assuming that she wasn't born
prematurely and than Arthur and Molly waiting at least a month after
Ron's birth to conceive again, she can't have been born much earlier
than January 1, 1981, so she is likely to be at least five months
younger than him, but probably more. (Have pity on poor Molly.
<g>) If Hogwarts has a September 1 cutoff, as many people insist
(to mirror the British educational system) her birthday would most
likely be sometime in the first eight months of the year. (I
personally like April 1 for her birthday, because Fred and George
would give her a really hard time if that were true.<vbeg>)

We know from GoF that Fred and George were born in April of 1978,
three-and-a-half years before the fall of Voldemort.

Yes. On page 13 of Philosopher's Stone, Dumbledore says, "We've had
precious little to celebrate for eleven years." This would imply
that things started to get bad around 1970, although presumably,
Voldemort would have found it necessary to begin building his power
some time before that. Bill and Charlie would have been small
children (about 4 and 6) and this would have been six years before
Percy was born and eight years before the twins.
