Dave had some interesting questions about Voldemort's mum:

>Is there anyone besides me who wants to know more about this elusive
>figure who died in childbirth but apparently held out long enough to
>name her son after the bum who deserted her?

>And was she a Slytherin? (I say, "Not necessarily.")

Then Barb said:
>As the last remaining heir to Slytherin, I have no doubt this is the
house she was in. Where else?

Now me:
I'm not so sure she was a Slytherin. Is Voldemort's Slytherin
heritage definitely from her side of the family? I can't recall
offhand whether Tom Riddle Jr says so or not, maybe someone else
could kindly look that up? ;-) Of course, if it does come from her
side of the family, then she would have to have been a Slytherin, but
I quite like the idea that the Slytherin heritage was on the Riddle
side of the family, just diluted by years of interbreeding and
waiting for another "magic gene" to come along to activate it.

Dave also asked:
>And would mum be proud of what her son
>has become or (as I'm curently imagining) appalled?

Me:
Hmm. Very interesting. I wonder what Ma Voldemort *would* think of
her son's behaviour. I like the idea of her being appalled by it. But
how could we ever find out what she thought? Well, if she was a
ghost, of course! JKR has said that we will find out more about
ghosts in later books, about why people become ghosts. Wouldn't
Voldemort's mother be an interesting ghost to see?
