I didn't have anything sinister in mind when using the term
sinister.
To me it read like intense curiosity on Hermione's part.
As if she really wanted to find out about the makings and
workings of the polyjuice potion and was happy to have found
a way of doing this *and* thereby doing some good, too.
I like Hermione, but don't see her as the perfect character
who never does anything selfish, ever.
Also, I wanted to respond to somebody who mentioned that
Hermione is JKR's Mary Sue and therefore safe from death in
the books.
Unfortunately I couldn't find that post and don't know who
wrote it.
Anyway, a lot of the "Mary Sues" I have come across *do*
die heroic deaths to save the hero (after almost every male
character falls in love or at least admires this perfect
creature <g>).
It seems to be either heroic death or marriage to the hero
for most Mary Sues.
Hm, I'll have to read the books again with the Mary Sue
filter on.
Hermione's name fits, but the buck teeth and bushy hair
don't.
Although now the her teeth are perfect and she does manage
to change into a gorgeous knock out for the ball.
Maybe I won't look into the Mary Sue tendencies too much,
because it could taint my view of Hermione :)

Okay here is why I DON'T think Hermione is a Mary Sue. I think Hermione did change her looks for the ball yes, I'll give you that but I mean what girl doesn't want to be pretty? LOL I mean she just wanted to look great for a change, I think it was endearing and not annoying. Also, Hermione is annoying *at times*, she tells the boys what to do *often*, she is intelligent, she has oppinions. And she doesn't follow Harry (or Ron) like a puppy dog. LOL Therefore I dont' think she meets the qualifications of being a Mary Sue
