Just because she does well in class?  I don't buy it.  Snape's been 
a teacher for a while; Hermione can't be the first good student he's 
had.  He doesn't know about the polyjuice potion (though he probably 
suspects something because of the missing boomslang skin), and the 
puzzle Hermione solved in PS/SS was a matter of logic, not potions 
expertise.  Nor has Hermione shown any interested in Potions as a 
career; her favorite subject seems to be Arithmancy.  And Snape is 
*arrogant* -- he's not going to walk around in fear just because 
some upstart Gryffindor student shows promise in his subject.
