"Oh dear. I know Hermione is very impressive and that lots of
academically inclined people identify greatly with her, but I have
always thought that Rowling is trying to point out that intellect
and talent can only take you so far. I'm beginning to hope that JKR
will have Hemione fall on her face in a big way, to reinforce that
point. There's an unhealthy level (IMO) of Hermione-worship going
on here; it's just not good for her. You don't want her to develop
humongous bis-head syndrome, do you <vbg>?" -Jo Serenadust

Oh, I have to comment on this. I know that Rowling has done a good job of
showing why Hermione's dedication to work has not only helped her, but also
hindered her because sometimes she goes overboard in her studies. At the
beginning Hermione was very proud of herself and felt superior to others who
didn't work as hard as she did, but she was a child and she has matured
greatly throughout the first 4 novels.

Hermione will always be Hermione, she worries a little too much and works
herself a little too hard, but that's just who she is. I have an enormous
amount of admiration for her character. She is extremely kind-hearted and
intelligent, and she not just book smart or anything.

Hermione has very high morals and cares for her friends deeply. She is
definitely the kind of patient, hard-working, passionate, and sweet person
who will be respected by most people who get to know her. In the last book
particularly she has been courageous and wise. I don't see how anyone cannot
love her.

Also, Hermione isn't really a big target for Snape, he just is angry with her
when she helps Neville, or when she proves to be the exception to the rule
when it comes to knowledge among the students, she is the most learned of
just about any witch or wizard in her grade. It's hard for anyone not to
volunteer informatin when they know the answers, why shouldn't she get some
praise for her hard work? She was annoying when she was younger, but I think
she's gotten a lot less so.

I really love how strong Hermione is and how intelligent she has gotten. She
doesn't always follow the crowd, so other people think she's conceited. She's
really just confident in her morals, I love how she always makes herself do
the right thing.

I'm sure she feels like she's better than others sometimes, when she has to
todefend her actions, but a lot of that is because her combination of growing
up in a muggle family and being so well learned in wizardry give her a much
more enlightened perspective than most of her peers have.

Well, there's my two cents on Hermione.
