Slavery and House Elves

Greetings!

In response to an announcement about a very intriguing article, Grey
Wolf drew a rather unconventional parallel between house-elf slavery
and tobacco addiction.

That's a different way to look at it, GW, and I'll want to think about
that and the Scientific American article a bit before responding....

Which I will do on 20 May, because (trumpet fanfare!) that's the date
we have scheduled for talking about house elves in their two
discussion questions from Dr. Nel!

So as with the discussion of rules that was sparked by Percy's
questions, I shan't ask people *not* to talk about this now, if it
suits them. But I thought y'all might want to know that there will be
a house-elf discussion in a few weeks, as well, so you may want to
hold your comments until then.

Or if people really want to talk about it "Officially" sooner, perhaps
I can sweet-talk one of the other discussion leaders to switch to a
sooner week? If so, please inform me off-list. Get 10% of the list and
we'll deal.
