Hmm... I think it'd be *more* to do with wolf-instincts of a true 
wolf. A wolf doesn't normally attack except under run-or-fight 
situation, being rabid or hunting. The difference between werewolves 
and real ones is specific: Werewolves hunt *only* humans, true wolves 
hunt big prey but preferably not humans.

Wolves are pack-animals. Moony saw the Marauders as his *pack*, 
particularly another canine, Padfoot. A wolf in a pack isn't likely 
to leave the pack. That's what gave their mere being there the 
ability to "control" Moony - possibly even with Prongs as the pack-
leader, so Moony would obey instinctively.

Except that werewolves only hunt humans. They formed a pack - and 
wolves don't attack pack-mates. And, if Prongs was leader and Padfoot 
second, controlling Moony was in line with wolf-instinct.
