In The Dark is Rising, the key is that Will is the seventh son of a
seventh son, and I believe that mythology is also well-established,
though I can't put my finger on where I have come across it before.
JKR would surely not be so patriarchal. If seven is a magic number,
isn't it enough to be the seventh child? In which case we have two
other possibilities: (a) Ginny is a Seer or (b) Ron is a Seer
because he is his parents' seventh child, but the missing Weasley
could have been a girl. Unless the nature of magic really is that
boys are more special <snort>.
